An Iowa State University lecturer is under a firestorm of criticism after he insulted the U.S. military and condemned efforts by College Republicans to collect gift boxes for American soldiers.

“Why do Republicans care so much about the military?” Thomas Walker wrote in a letter to the Iowa State Daily. “Because the military-industrial complex is dear to their simplistic laissez-faire fantasies: a bottom-line patriotism that excludes the people at the bottom.”

Walker is a lecturer in the university’s English and orientation program. He ridiculed the charitable actions of the young college students and questioned their motives.

“Soldiers are to Republicans as fetuses are to them: prized,” Walker wrote. “But once out of the womb-like army, Republican solicitude for hapless veterans goes where extracted zygotes go.”

Walker was referring to a newspaper article detailing efforts by Iowa State’s College Republicans to show their support for America’s fighting men and women.

“Donating toiletries, boxed and canned foods, socks and beanies to U.S. soldiers who can already deodorize themselves, who eat better than the poorest Americans and who are gallantly garbed, is an eleemosynary travesty,” he wrote.

His comments have created an outrage among students and supporters of the university.

“I, along with many Iowans, was offended and disgusted by the unfortunate and highly inappropriate remarks made against our soldiers in uniform,” Regent President Pro Tem Bruce Rastetter told the Quad-City Times. “Not only did Mr. Walker insult our sons and daughters in uniform – he also questioned the kind and humanitarian efforts made by our students to ensure that our soldiers know we care about them and are exceedingly grateful for their service.”

Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy was a bit more subdued in his remarks – explain that he respects freedom of speech, but disagreed with Walker’s letter.

Walker remains employed by the university.

From article:

The poll shows that 40 percent of Republicans say they attend church weekly. While 21 percent say they attend nearly weekly or monthly, and 38 percent say they rarely go to church.

Meanwhile of their political counterparts polled, only 27 percent of Democrats who say they go to church every week, 20 percent say they go monthly and 52 percent of Democrats say they seldom or never go to church.

Almost one in five Democrats identify with no religious faith compared to only one in 10 Republicans who feel that way…

Just for good measure, because all of the lefties will cite their “enlightenment” as reason for not believing in God, here’s what a couple of nobody’s said about society and religion:

“Every human society that tears out religion, removes its foundation.” - Plato, 10th Book of the Law

“The most Pious cities and nations have ever been the wisest and most lasting.” - Xenophon, 4th cen. B.C. historian and philosopher

“It’s easier to build a city in the air than to constitute a society without belief in the gods.” - Plutarch, 1st cen. A.D. historian and philosopher

On September 11, 2011, blacks from the West Coast and the East Coast joined together and signed one of the most comprehensive legal briefs ever prepared on racial discrimination…

They would like the Democratic Party to apologize for their role in past racial injustices done against blacks. Oh, you thought Republicans were the racists? Well, think again. The democrats have had over 175 years of keeping blacks as second class citizens from slavery to Jim Crow. Throughout recent years, the Democrats (including President Obame) have refused to acknowlege their stained history. Rev. Wayne Perryman, the lead plaintiff in this class lawsuit, said, “Any organization that has such a racist history and receives 97% of the African American vote (after doing all they could to deny blacks the right to vote), should willingly apologize without being forced do so through a lawsuit.” The democrats attack on the tea party as a racist movement, which is obviously untrue, is just another way for them to keep the rhetoric off of their own bad policies.

A permanent tax hike is not the way to pay for temporary jobs.
House Speaker John Boehner

In his new Huffington post article, Richard (RJ) Eskow goes on a rampage condemning the GOP because of “their refusal to pass the strongest provisions in this reasonable bill” which, according to him, designates the Republicans to Groucho Marx status. (Read article here)

In a letter to the White House on Friday, House Republicans wrote:

We believe creating long-term, sustainable jobs must be the top priority for elected leaders of both parties, and it is our desire to work with you to find common ground on steps that can be taken to allow our economy to grow and to create those jobs. While we have a different vision in terms of what is needed to boost private-sector job creation in our country, we believe your ideas merit consideration by the Congress, and believe the American people expect them to be given such consideration,” they told Obama. “We look forward to receiving legislative text for any of your ideas in a manner that can be scored by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, and to the upcoming speech you described last night in which you will detail the offsets that will be needed to ensure your proposals are paid for.

Now does that sound like an unwilling, uncompromising, anti-jobs GOP? I didn’t think so RJ.
